First Read Aloud

Little Sister can read!  Kindergarten is well underway, and she is into school and loving it.  I am so glad I have a video of her first "real" book and wish I had ones of the other girls when they were first learning to read, too.

Big Sister

Big Sister's State Report Poster. She chose the state of Massachusetts which is quite interesting, but also quite difficult to get the state name on the poster when it is 13 letters long. We are finally done and ready to move on to the next phase of the state report: making a float for a Radio Flyer wagon.

New Glasses for Little Sister

Little Sister is sporting some glasses after being referred on by the school. Vision screening has come a long way. Now preschoolers have pictures of their eyes taken that are looked at by The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. 90% of the children who are referred on require treatment. So, Little Sister is quite proud of her new specs. We hope they help her!

4th Grade, and Other Things - by Big Sister

Hi. It's been a while since I've last blogged. This year my teacher is Mrs. Frey and I like her a lot. Today we started our leaf project. We have to make power points on them and today we took pictures of leaves. Almost a week ago we got to see Max and Ruby live at the McCleod center. If you don't know who Max and Ruby are they're bunnies from Rosemary Wells' books. This past Wed. Middle Sister and I did a cheerleading clinic and learned a dance. On Fri. night we got to preform after the band at halftime. If you don't know Middle Sister has her own blog now! She is very excited so come and check it out if you haven't. You can click here to see it.

A Birthday and Back to School

Today was a big day at our house. Little Sister celebrated her fifth birthday - and it was also the first day of school. All sisters were happy with their teachers and first day back and are ready to go to school tomorrow. Little Sister handed out rainbow cupcakes in honor of her birthday and even stopped at daycare to give some to her friends there. The school year is off to a great start!

No More Day-care

It's official. Our family is done with daycare. Just to help Karen remember how much we appreciate her taking care of us for six and a half years, our Grandma helped us out and made a beautiful flannel quilt for her.

Little Sister and Sammy

Little Sister is in love with our new dog, Sammy. Every day she wants him to wake her up. She kisses and hugs him before she goes to bed or leaves for school or daycare. She is even patient with Sammy when he has accidents in her room.

An Interview with Little Sister about Sammy

Mom: What thing do you like the best about Sammy?

Little Sister: Playing with him.

Mom: Is Sammy ever naughty?

LS: Yes, when he pees and poops on the carpet.

Mom: Do you think we take Sammy back?

LS: No.

Mom: Is there anything else you'd like to tell us about Sammy?

LS: I like Sammy. Leah and Chloe wanted a dog, but they don't take care of Sammy. I'm the only one who takes care of Sammy. They just play their DSi. No petting. No kissing. I'm the one who likes him.

Mom's Spring Break, Day 1

What do Mom and Little Sister do when Big and Middle Sister are at school? Go and get henna tattoos. Mom is pretty sure we will have to make another trip to Waterloo in the next few days so the other two girls can match. Isn't Little Sister's beautiful?

Big Sister at the Bridal Show

Today was the bridal show in Waterloo. Make A Wish had children whose wishes were granted be models for the different bridal shops. In addition the girls were able to get their hair done by a local stylist. Here's big sister all dolled up. The lady she is posing with was her bridal/bridesmaid escort. While talking to her we found out that on Monday she will be leaving to begin teaching in South Korea at a private school. Very interesting.

Middle Sister's Thoughts on First Grade

My teacher's name is Miss Enslin. I like first grade. I like to do math. First grade is fun. I like to draw on my dry erase board with Norah, Grace and Kaylee. At center time I like to get out my reading tub and get out an animal and find a spot to read.

Make A Wish Walk

Here are the three sisters at the Make A Wish walkathon. They all went right for the face painting, even though I had warned them it would need to be washed off tonight. Don't they look like beautiful butterflies?

A Word From Middle Sister

I went to gymnastics today and have a new skill: handstand on the low beam. YAY!! Little Sister just started gymnastics this summer. She smiles during the entire class. She has a skill, too, on the uneven bar. And Big Sister has managed to add two new skills over the summer. We are having a lot of fun.

Newest Fad

The sisters have been busily collecting these bracelets after finding out they were the newest fad. Seems their mother is a bit behind the times. We have been to Walgreens, CVS and Claire's in an effort to be in fashion. Aren't they pretty?
Just like the the jelly bracelets of the 80s - only these are in different shapes - fast food, zoo animals, farm animals, sea animals, diva, glam, fruits, transportation are just a few of the different types.

Middle Sister's Weekend

Middle Sister and Big Sister are taking ice skating lessons. Today was our second lesson. We both know a little bit more than last time. Middle Sister fell down three times (according to her). Big Sister fell down two times (per her counting as well). Their friend, Peaceful Girl, was also at lessons, so they were able to have fun with her during the free skate time. The next lesson isn't for two more weeks because of Easter. Middle Sister managed to get around the entire ice rink. Big Sister managed to get a blister.

Big Sister and Middle Sister do a Double Down Dog

Big Sister and Middle Sister tried out some yoga today at Field of Yoga. They were skeptical prior to the class, but both of them told me how much they loved their morning there and were hoping to go back next Saturday. Unfortunately at this point today was a one time only event. I am hoping they start some yoga classes for kids because Big and Middle definitely want to sign up.

Middle Sister's Day At School

Today I went to school. We had indoor recess because it was too icy and it was below zero, I think. At Centers we play Dance Class sometimes. We did that today. And we did an art project at center. We also try to make our hair look the same as each other. The whole class sang two songs together today. The other thing that happened today is that there was no toilet paper in either girl bathroom. We had to use paper towels for a while. Ick. Now it's all fixed.
